New for Late Summer and Fall 2010!
With over 1800 cultivars, a new introduction has to be markedly different or especially garden-worthy to be added to our offerings. These five new introductions have been found to be well adapted to the Pacific Northwest.
Echinacea ‘Hot Summer' - Flowers open yellow and steadily turn to scarlet as they mature. The result is a harmony of fiery shades all on one plant, all at the same time! 30”-36” tall by 24”-30” wide. Hardy to zone 4.
Perovskia ‘Lacey Blue' - This compact, upright form of Russian sage will look and fit better in smaller gardens! Deep violet-blue flowers arranged in panicles appear in summer above gray-green lacy foliage. Prefers somewhat dry, well-drained soil and a sunny location. Grown from a seedling of P. 'Blue Spire'. 30”-36” tall by 36”-42” wide. Hardy to zone 5.
Coreopsis ‘Ruby Frost' - A color breakthrough! Stunning red blooms have a white edge and bloom all summer over rich green foliage. Easy to grow and a marvelous addition to the mixed border. 12” tall by 18” wide. Hardy to zone 6.
Mukdenia ‘Karasuba' (‘Crimson Fans') - Bold, fan-shaped leaves are glossy and green in spring. By summer the foliage turns red at the edges. By fall the foliage is completely flame red. Airy, white star-shaped flowers open in the spring as the leaves emerge. 8”-12” tall by 10”-12” wide. Hardy to zone 4.
Pennisetum ‘Princess Caroline' - 'Princess Caroline' provides brilliant dark purple foliage on plants that stay compact. It has better disease resistance, excellent weather tolerance and sturdier growth. Plants will not flower except in totally frost-free areas. 3' tall by 3' wide. Hardy to zone 8.
